When a common, authentic language is found, the voice of Indigenous people can be amplified, and we can take control of our own narrative. Only then can we start building empathy with Canadians in regards to broken treaties, missing and murdered Indigenous women, accessibility to clean water, access to mental health services and the high number of Indigenous children in government care.
My people will sleep for one hundred years, but when they awake, it will be the artists who give them their spirit back. ~ Louis Riel
In many shamanic traditions, optimum health is considered to be the equal expression of these archetypes. Indigenous peoples consider it vitally important to be balanced in all four areas: leading, healing, visioning, and teaching. For most people, however, this balance is far from reality. ~ Angeles Arrien
Everything I do is for my children, my grandchildren and my grandchildren’s grandchildren. I feel that if I didn’t do something about what’s happening to Indigenous people in Canada, if I didn’t share my story, there would be nobody left in my family to fix it, to make it better. And it’s not just me that’s fixing it. I’m trying to build a community with non-Indigenous people and Indigenous people so we can continue this work together. ~ Colleen Cardinal
